They've been warned of this leak by GitGuardian weeks ago... and did nothing. For people manipulating such sensitive data their security practices are preposterous.
I hope people using Grok enjoy their queries... Because they come with direct environmental and health consequences.
A good petition to push forward. Political leaders shouldn't keep interacting in this cesspool.
Everything is in the title... if you thought you owned anything on those platforms, think twice.
This is what we get for refusing to regulate social media and for not auditing their algorithms. Their owners can game and bias the platforms as they see fit for their own gains. They became massive forces of manipulation in the process.
Sad to see people predominantly jumping from Twitter to other tech moguls walled gardens. This feels more and more like a missed opportunity for the fediverse. That said I'm amazed at how efficient Musk has been at killing the network effect of his platform. This proves it's actually doable.
The European Commission starts showing it's muscles. Twitter is an obvious one to pursue since it became the X cesspool.
Despite understandable limitations, this studies has a few interesting findings on how communities can more easily switch platforms (in this case from Twitter to Mastodon). At least one is a bit counter-intuitive.
I never liked the "it's neutral, it's just a tool". A very naive view in my opinion. New illustration of this with Twitter. Tools are inserted in a socio-technical system, and the sociology side will influence the design enough to make the tool not so neutral. Here clearly all hell broke loose and it became a massive danger to democracy due to the level of misinformation and the type of messages which are advantaged by the changes.
More organizations leaving Twitter (now X... rofl). It's a good thing and a logical step if you take values and code of conduct into account. It clearly became a cesspool from what I see.
The first signs of journalism finding some independence from social media? That would be very welcome.
Are we surprised? Not at all...
Indeed people still seem to assume Mastodon is just a Twitter clone. This is a good reminder that it's not, it's just one front to the Fediverse and that's much more interesting than a Twitter clone.
This is really going down the drain. Right wings extremists basically took over the content moderation vacuum. I wonder how long before this turns into simply into an extremist echo chamber with no real user on it.
Once again this highlight the toxic architecture of those social networks. They create frustration and anger and it's by design. The trending topics on Twitter is one of the worst form of audience clashes.
