There might be a method behind the madness of the thin skinned autocrat heading Meta... Unfortunately it probably works.
I wish people will stay clear of this newer social media... It already smells really bad in its practice.
Aren't the signs clear enough yet? Don't get misled by Bluesky.
This could be a piece full of nostalgia. There is a bit of nostalgia of course, but it's also a path to use what we got in a more valuable and humane way.
Another one on the commodification of travel, it exemplifies what real travel is.
Yes, I'm definitely bummed by this behavior as well. Best travel is when you take your time and enjoy the place, definitely not running around to take pictures for vanity reasons.
People are manipulating vanity metrics to attract VC money? Who would have expected? This is so unsurprising, I don't even understand why people look at those...
The writing is on the wall I think... the real question is not if but when will the enshittification begins? It's been data harvesting for a while now.
So much this... I'm sick of all those little businesses having only an Instagram or Facebook account or whatever. I wish we'd have proper websites for all of those instead.
Yes there's a dip, but this piece presents compelling evidence that it's not the death of literacy we're sometimes screaming at. It is also a love letter to reading and writing.
Could it get more intrusive than this? It's really handing over sensitive data to shady companies...
Clearly a trial to keep an eye on. Some of those internal memos might prove decisive.
Indeed, it's just can't be called decentralized...
There was indeed another path for social media... Let's hope the Fediverse stay on this course.
Not all reading is born equal. The intent matters quite a lot. Build the skill, it'll last a life time.
Or why the focus on fact checking is doomed to fail. You can't ignore our biases, the social context, and above all the toxic architecture of the big social medias.
This is a welcome development at the W3C. Let's hope this working group will bring good things and stewardship for the related standards.
Indeed, social media even the fediverse isn't really about communication or community, it's about consuming content.
Such a nice business model... not. There's really a lack of regulation in this space.
I think the title should say "social media" rather than "the Internet". That said, the trend is indeed clear... those big tech companies look more and more like TV broadcaster. So remember you turned off the TV for a reason.
