Aren't the signs clear enough yet? Don't get misled by Bluesky.
It's not complicated, and a good thing to do.
This looks like an interesting agreement. E2EE messaging anyone? There is more of course, but I'm especially excited regarding this one.
There was indeed another path for social media... Let's hope the Fediverse stay on this course.
This is a welcome development at the W3C. Let's hope this working group will bring good things and stewardship for the related standards.
These extensions look really neat for discovering Mastodon and RSS feed. I think I'll check them out.
Definitely a good move to have more sustainable income for Mastodon.
Interesting, there are definitely some trends benefiting saner alternatives... But are we really seeing the end of the big social media platforms as we know them? Let's wait and see.
Nice and clear indicators of how decentralized the fediverse and the "atmosphere" really are.
Nice to see one more implementation available for the fediverse. This one comes with interesting features actually.
Nice experiment. When looking at the actual infrastructure used, the servers are indeed nicely decentralized. For the users the picture would be different though.
This is clearly needed. This should increase the maturity of the security practice around Fediverse software.
Clearly the security practice around Pixelfed bears questioning. I'm also a bit surprise at the lack of protection of private messages in the ActivityPub protocol (even though it's a hard admittedly a hard problem).
Indeed, the Fediverse needs to be better known. Any small actions towards this goal helps.
This is good to see funds being raised for those projects. Lets hope they get madly successful.
Definitely a good move, especially when we see the behavior of the tech moguls...
I shared this post across 7 different social media platforms, here's how their engagement stacked up
Interesting little study of engagement on various platforms. Clearly the Fediverse could do better in terms of avoiding "friendly fire", I suspect it's the top reason limiting its growth.
Yet another long piece in this interesting and in depth conversation about Bluesky. The fact that it stays civil is called out explicitly and this is appreciated.
Excellent post from Cory Doctorow about why he is only on Mastodon. Not being federated should indeed just be a deal breaker by now. Empty promises should be avoided.
Very good piece explaining why the Ferdiverse is currently our only option for a decentralized social media platform. Maybe Bluesky will become another option... maybe... but so far it's only empty promises with a real risk of capture.
